Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment (CDRA) Maps of Surigao City
The Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment (CDRA) formulated by the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development (DHSUD) is a methodology to understand and assess the potential impacts of hazards to the community and their assets. CDRA goes beyond the conventional โrisk assessmentโ as it incorporates climate-related hazards and their prospective impacts in the characteristics of hazards. It is also intended for mainstreaming climate change and disaster risk in the comprehensive land use planning or the risk and climate informed CLUP.
Furthermore, the CDRA determines the level of exposure, vulnerability, and risks of population, urban use areas, natural resources, lifeline utilities, and critical point facilities to disasters. It provides necessary preparation and recommendation to help the city reduce its losses and damage in times of disasters. The technical working group (TWG) conducted a five-step process which involves: 1) collecting hazard and climate change information; 2) scoping of potential impacts: 3) exposure database development; 4) climate and disaster risk assessment, and; 5) identifying decision areas and corresponding policy interventions. It provides necessary preparation and recommendation to help the municipality reduce its losses and damage in times of calamities.
